Celebrities and well-known others will slip on their dancing shoes today for the launch of "Dancing With the Stars." Let's hope they stay on their feet, given the number of people who have been injured while pursuing the dance challenge. Let's review the show's medical charts:

This season: Already two of this year's would-be waltzers have been hurt. Former House majority leader Tom DeLay has a problem but refuses to recuse himself. Model Kathy Ireland didn't hurt herself on the dance floor, but she still managed to end up with stitches.

Last season: Eight dancers faced challenges to their samba status. Before she hit the stage, singer Jewel fractured bones in both her legs. Watch her talk about the show. Nancy O'Dell, "Access Hollywood" co-host, might have gone at rehearsals a little too enthusiastically.

Poor Melissa Rycroft: First she gets the boot from "The Bachelor," then she steps in as a replacement, only to break a rib. Another replacement, a Playboy model turned "Girl Next Door," also hurt a rib.

As if that wasn't enough, this sexy actor also was hurt, but he stayed on his feet. But "Jackass" star Steve-O's move fell flat. Though this titan of the computer world fractured his foot and pulled a hamstring, the injuries didn't keep him off the floor. See for yourself. Even a rodeo king took a hit.

More tangos, more traumas: How could this beach volleyball champ get hurt? And this pretty professional had to stop waltzing to race to the hospital. This soap opera star twisted her ankle, funny guy Jeffrey Ross scratched a cornea, and this model-actress hurt her foot. But things ended well for her - see for yourself.

Over-the-top actress Cloris Leachman's dancing ended with a health concern. And this well-known singer had a cancer scare.

Earlier seasons: If you're a fan, you can't forget Marie Osmond's disturbing fall - here are videos. Actor Christian de la Fuente ended up in the hospital, but poor actress Jane Seymour was laid flat with a nasty illness.

Now new training rules are in effect. Hopefully that will mean pain-free tangos.
