Police in South Africa say they are investigating the death of a baby found in the bag of a student from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Police Lt. Col. Lungelo Dlamini told ABC News the tiny corpse was discovered Wednesday in the bag of a 17-year-old girl brought to a hospital and treated for excessive bleeding. Although no charges were brought against the student, who was not identified to ABC News, the matter remains under investigation, Dlamini said. The teen is believed to have given birth to the baby at her school, he added.
A representative for the academy, which was founded in 2007 outside of Johannesburg, declined to comment on the incident.
